How to Extract Frames from a Video in 3 Steps
Drop a video
Drag an MP4, MOV or WebM onto the left pane and, if you only need part of it, narrow the Start/End sliders.
Choose the interval
In Settings pick how often to capture — every half second up to every ten seconds, or every single frame for short bursts (capped at 300 images) — plus JPG or PNG and the output size.
Capture and download
Click Capture frames. Thumbnails fill the right pane as they are grabbed; click any one to save it alone, or press Download for a ZIP of all of them.
Video to Image Frames — Frequently Asked Questions
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. The clip is decoded by your browser's own video player, redrawn onto a canvas and re-encoded with the MediaRecorder API — all on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
How many frames can I extract?
Up to 300 per run. At one frame per second that covers five minutes of video; Every frame grabs 30 per second, so it suits bursts of ten seconds or less. Narrow the range and run again for more.
JPG or PNG?
JPG (quality 92) is small and ideal for thumbnails and contact sheets. PNG is lossless and larger — pick it if you plan to edit the stills or need exact pixels.
How are the files named?
Each image is named after the video plus its timestamp, e.g. holiday-00m05.0s.jpg, so they sort in order in any folder.
Why is capture slower for "Every frame"?
Each still requires seeking the player to that exact time and waiting for the frame to decode (20–50 ms). 300 frames therefore take around 10 seconds; coarser intervals are near-instant.
