How It Works

How to Rotate a Video in 3 Steps

1

Drop a video

Drag an MP4, MOV or WebM onto the left pane. The right pane shows a live preview with the default 90° rotation applied.

2

Choose rotation and flip

In Settings pick 90°, 180° or 270° and, if needed, a horizontal or vertical mirror. The preview updates instantly; scrub the player to check any frame.

3

Rotate and download

Click Rotate video. The clip is re-encoded once with the new orientation baked into the pixels, so it plays correctly everywhere.

FAQ

Video Rotator — Frequently Asked Questions

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The clip is decoded by your browser's own video player, redrawn onto a canvas and re-encoded with the MediaRecorder API — all on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.

Why does my phone video look sideways only on some players?

Phones often record sideways and just add a "rotate me" flag that some players ignore. This tool rewrites the actual pixels, so the orientation is fixed in every player and editor.

Does the resolution change?

For 90° and 270° the width and height swap (1920×1080 becomes 1080×1920); 180° and flips keep the same size. No pixels are scaled.

Which format do I get?

MP4 (H.264) in Chrome, Edge and Safari; WebM (VP9/VP8) in Firefox. The output badge shows the container and size. Need another format? Run the result through our Video Converter.

Why does it take as long as the clip itself?

Browser encoding happens in real time: the video plays once while every frame is captured, so a 2-minute clip takes about 2 minutes. Keep the tab visible — background tabs pause rendering and would stall the job.
