How to Crop a Video in 3 Steps
Drop a video
Drag an MP4, MOV or WebM onto the left pane. A crop box covering the whole frame appears over the player.
Frame the crop
Drag the box to move it and the corner handle to resize it. Lock a ratio in Settings (1:1, 9:16, 4:5…) or type exact pixel values; scrub the player to check other moments in the clip.
Crop and download
Click Crop video. Only the boxed area is re-encoded, so the result is both smaller and the shape you need.
Video Cropper — Frequently Asked Questions
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. The clip is decoded by your browser's own video player, redrawn onto a canvas and re-encoded with the MediaRecorder API — all on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
Which sizes do the presets give?
1:1 for Instagram posts, 9:16 for Reels, TikTok and Shorts, 4:5 for portrait feed posts, 16:9 and 4:3 for landscape. With a ratio locked the handle keeps the shape; Free lets you draw anything.
Does cropping reduce quality?
The cropped pixels are kept at their original size (no upscaling) and re-encoded once at a bitrate matched to the new resolution, so quality stays close to the source.
Can the crop move during the video?
No — the box is fixed for the whole clip. For a moving "pan and scan" effect you would need a video editor with keyframes.
Which format do I get?
MP4 (H.264) in Chrome, Edge and Safari; WebM (VP9/VP8) in Firefox. The output badge shows the container and size. Need another format? Run the result through our Video Converter.
Why does it take as long as the clip itself?
Browser encoding happens in real time: the video plays once while every frame is captured, so a 2-minute clip takes about 2 minutes. Keep the tab visible — background tabs pause rendering and would stall the job.
