FAQ

Image Negative Inverter — Frequently Asked Questions

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is decoded and processed on a canvas in your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server, and nothing is kept after you close the page.

How does inverting work?

Every channel value v becomes 255 − v: black turns white, red turns cyan, blue turns yellow. Strength blends between the original and the full negative.

Can I turn a scanned film negative into a positive?

Inverting gives a usable preview of B&W negatives. Colour film has an orange mask, so colours will look blue-tinted — correct them in a photo editor afterwards.

Is transparency inverted?

Not by default: transparent areas stay transparent. Tick Invert transparency too for masks and cut-outs.

Does it reduce quality?

Inversion is lossless on the pixels. Saving as JPG adds normal JPG compression; choose PNG to keep it perfect.
