Unlock PDF
Remove the password from a PDF you own, or strip owner-only restrictions on printing and copying — decrypted in your browser, never uploaded.
How to Unlock a PDF in 3 Steps
Drop the PDF
The tool checks the file: it either opens straight away, is restricted (opens, but printing or copying is blocked), or needs a password.
Enter the Password
If it asks, type the password you were given. Restricted-only files need nothing — just click Unlock.
Unlock & Download
The preview on the right is rendered from the new file with no password at all, so you can see it is really open. Download it and keep it somewhere safe.
Unlock PDF — Frequently Asked Questions
Can this crack a password I do not know?
No, and nothing in a browser realistically can for modern AES encryption. It removes protection from files you can already open — a document you were sent with its password, or one you protected yourself and no longer want locked.
What are "owner restrictions"?
A PDF can open without a password yet forbid printing, copying or editing. Those flags are only enforced when the file stays encrypted, so decrypting it with the (empty) open password removes them. The tool detects this case and tells you no password is needed.
Will the content change?
No. Pages, text, images, links and form fields are written out exactly as they were, just without the encryption layer. File size may shift by a few kilobytes.
Is it legal to remove a PDF password?
For your own documents or ones you are authorised to use, yes. Bypassing protection on a file you have no right to is a different matter — please respect the owner's wishes and local law.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The document is parsed and rewritten by pdf-lib and rendered by PDF.js (the engine Firefox uses) entirely inside your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored.
