Image to Favicon Generator — Frequently Asked Questions
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. Resizing, shape masking and ICO packaging are done on an HTML canvas inside your browser, and the ZIP is assembled locally. Your artwork never leaves your device.
Which files are in the download and where do I put them?
favicon.ico (16/32/48 px multi-size), favicon-16x16.png, favicon-32x32.png, apple-touch-icon.png (180 px) and android-chrome 192/512 px. Unzip them into your site root (or an /assets/favicons/ folder) and paste the generated <link> tags into the <head> — the Copy HTML button gives you exactly those tags.
Why is there still a .ico file in 2025?
Browsers request /favicon.ico by default, Windows uses it for pinned sites and shortcuts, and some older crawlers only read it. The ICO here bundles 16, 32 and 48 px bitmaps so each context picks the crisp one.
What source image works best?
A square image of at least 512 × 512 px with a simple, high-contrast mark. SVG scales perfectly; PNG with transparency keeps a clean background. Avoid thin lines and small text — they disappear at 16 px.
What does Quiet Zone Padding do?
It shrinks the artwork inside the icon and leaves a margin so rounded or circular masks (iOS, Android adaptive icons) don't clip the edges. 8–12 % is a safe default for most logos.
My new favicon doesn't show up — why?
Browsers cache favicons aggressively. Hard-refresh (Ctrl/⌘ + Shift + R), open the page in a private window, or add a query string such as favicon.ico?v=2 to the link tags.
