FAQ

Audio Pitch Shifter — Frequently Asked Questions

Is my audio uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is decoded by your browser's Web Audio engine, processed on your device and encoded in the page. Nothing is sent to a server.

Does the speed change?

No. The audio is time-stretched with WSOLA and then resampled, so pitch moves while the length stays identical.

How many semitones should I use?

One semitone is one piano key. ±1–3 changes the key for singing along; ±12 is a full octave. Voices start sounding cartoonish beyond about ±5.

What are cents for?

100 cents = 1 semitone. Use cents to match a recording to your instrument — for example −32 cents takes A440 to roughly A432.

Will it sound perfect?

Speech and solo instruments shift cleanly. Dense mixes and large shifts can get a slight phasey or grainy quality — that is the trade-off of any in-browser shifter without heavy AI models.

Which formats can I open and save?

Open anything your browser plays: MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, OGG, Opus, FLAC and WebM audio. Save as MP3 (128, 192 or 320 kbps) or lossless 16-bit WAV — pick under Settings.
