How to Extract Audio from a Video in 3 Steps
Drop a video
Drag an MP4, MOV or WebM onto the left pane. Use the Start/End sliders if you only want part of the soundtrack — a song, a quote, a sound effect.
Pick a format
MP3 at 128 kbps is small and fine for speech; 192–320 kbps for music. WAV is uncompressed (about 10 MB per minute) for editing.
Extract and download
Click Extract audio. Decoding and MP3 encoding are much faster than real time, so even long videos finish in seconds. Play the result, then download.
Video to Audio Converter — Frequently Asked Questions
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. The clip is decoded by your browser's own video player, redrawn onto a canvas and re-encoded with the MediaRecorder API — all on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
How fast is it?
The audio track is decoded with the Web Audio API and encoded with the LAME MP3 encoder compiled to JavaScript — typically 10–20× faster than real time. If the browser cannot decode the container directly, the tool falls back to recording the audio while the video plays, which takes as long as the selection.
What about M4A or AAC output?
Browsers cannot encode AAC on the page, so the choices are MP3 and WAV. Both play everywhere; MP3 is the one to pick for sharing.
Does it keep stereo and sample rate?
Yes — channels and sample rate are preserved from the source (stereo 48 kHz stays stereo 48 kHz). Only the bitrate you choose changes.
The result is silent — why?
The video has no audio track, or it is muted in the file. Check the original plays with sound first; screen recordings without a microphone are a common cause.
