Video Muter — Frequently Asked Questions
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read and rewritten inside your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server.
What does "lossless" mean here?
For MP4, MOV and M4V the audio track is removed from the file's index and its samples are blanked. The video stream is copied byte-for-byte — no re-encoding, no quality loss, no waiting.
Why is a WebM slower?
WebM files are re-recorded without sound using the browser's encoder, which runs in real time (a 2-minute clip takes about 2 minutes) and re-compresses the picture slightly.
Why is the muted MP4 almost the same size?
To stay lossless the file layout is kept and the audio bytes are overwritten with silence rather than cut out. If you need a smaller file, run it through the Video Compressor afterwards.
Can I keep part of the sound?
Not here — this tool removes all audio. Use the Video Trimmer to cut a section, or Video to Audio to keep only the sound.
