FAQ

Beat / BPM Detector — Frequently Asked Questions

Is my audio uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is decoded by your browser's Web Audio engine, processed on your device and encoded in the page. Nothing is sent to a server.

How is the tempo detected?

The tool builds an onset curve (where the energy jumps — kicks, snares, strums), then autocorrelates it to find the most regular beat spacing, refined to a decimal.

Why is the result half or double the real BPM?

A 70 BPM song and a 140 BPM song share the same beat grid. Pick the expected range in Settings to tell the detector which one you mean.

How accurate is it?

Songs with a steady drum beat are usually within ±0.5 BPM. Live recordings with drifting tempo, rubato classical music or beatless ambient tracks are unreliable — the confidence score drops for those.

What is the click track for?

It is the song with a metronome mixed on top at the detected tempo and phase. If the clicks line up you can trust the number; you can download it for practice.

How does tap tempo work?

Tap the button (or press T) on each beat. After four taps it averages the gaps; stop for 2 seconds to start over.
