Mailto Link Creator — Frequently Asked Questions
Is my email content sent to a server?
No. The link is assembled in your browser with JavaScript's encodeURIComponent. Nothing you type is transmitted or stored anywhere.
Why are spaces and line breaks replaced with %20 and %0A?
The mailto scheme is a URL, so special characters must be percent-encoded (RFC 3986). Email clients decode them back into normal text, spaces and new lines.
Can I add multiple recipients, CC or BCC addresses?
Yes. Separate addresses with commas in any field. CC and BCC become cc= and bcc= query parameters in the generated link.
Is there a maximum length for a mailto link?
Browsers and mail clients differ, but keeping the full link under about 2,000 characters avoids truncation. Long bodies should be shortened or moved into the email itself.
Why did nothing happen when I clicked Test Link?
mailto: links open your operating system's default mail app. If none is configured, or your browser blocks the handler, set a default email client (Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail) and try again.
