Camera — Frequently Asked Questions
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The camera feed is shown and captured inside your browser tab. Shots exist only in this page's memory until you download them — closing the tab discards them.
Why does it ask for permission?
Browsers never let a page use the camera or microphone without your consent. You can revoke it at any time from the padlock icon in the address bar.
Why are my selfies mirrored?
Mirroring makes the preview behave like a mirror, which feels natural. Turn it off in Settings if you want text and logos to read correctly in photos.
What format are videos saved in?
Your browser's recorder decides: WebM (VP8/VP9 + Opus) in Chrome, Edge and Firefox; MP4 in Safari. Use the Video Converter for other formats.
How is this different from the Photo Booth?
The Photo Booth makes decorated photo strips. Camera is a plain, full-resolution camera for single photos and videos.
