How It Works

How to Play Tetris in 3 Steps

1

Place the falling piece

Move with ← →, rotate with ↑ or X, soft-drop with ↓ and hard-drop with Space. On touch, swipe sideways to move, swipe down to drop and tap to rotate.

2

Clear lines

Fill a full row and it vanishes. Clearing 1, 2, 3 or 4 rows at once scores 40, 100, 300 or 1200 × level — a Tetris (4 rows) is worth far more than four singles.

3

Survive the speed-up

Every 10 lines the level rises and pieces fall faster. Start at level 5 or 10 for a challenge. The game ends when a new piece has no room to spawn.

FAQ

Tetris — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the 7-bag randomiser?

The seven pieces (I, O, T, S, Z, J, L) are shuffled into a bag and dealt one by one; when the bag is empty a new one is shuffled. You will never wait more than 12 pieces for an I — the same rule modern official versions use.

What is the ghost piece?

The faint outline at the bottom shows exactly where the current piece will land if you hard-drop. It makes fast play much safer; turn it off in the options for a purist experience.

How does scoring work?

Classic Nintendo scoring: 40, 100, 300 and 1200 points for clearing 1–4 lines at once, multiplied by the current level. Soft drops add 1 point per cell and hard drops 2 per cell. The level rises every 10 lines and the fall speed with it.

Where is my best score saved?

Only in your browser's localStorage under the key toolity_tetris. Nothing is sent anywhere; Reset or clearing site data removes it.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Swipe left or right to move one column per swipe, tap to rotate, swipe down to drop. The board scales to the screen and the game auto-pauses when you switch apps.
