How to Play Minesweeper in 3 Steps
Make your opening click
Your very first click is guaranteed never to be a mine — mines are laid after you click, leaving a safe 3×3 opening around your square.
Read the numbers & flag mines
Each number tells you how many mines touch that square’s 8 neighbours. Right-click (or switch to Flag mode on touch, or press F) to mark suspected mines.
Chord to clear faster
Once a numbered square has the right number of flags around it, click the number itself to reveal all its remaining neighbours at once. Reveal every non-mine square to win.

Minesweeper — Frequently Asked Questions
Can I lose on the first click?
Never. Mines are placed only after your first click, and the clicked square plus its 8 immediate neighbours are kept mine-free so you always get a playable opening.
What does Undo do in Minesweeper?
If you accidentally click a mine, pressing Undo (Z) steps back one move so you can finish a long Expert board without starting over.
How do I flag on a phone or tablet?
Tap the Mode: Dig / Flag button below the board to switch your tap action between digging and flagging.
How does the 16×30 Expert board fit on a phone?
On narrow screens the board wrapper scrolls horizontally inside the card so every cell stays large enough to tap accurately without zooming the page.
Is anything uploaded or tracked while I play?
No. The game runs entirely in your browser tab. Your best score or win tally is saved only in your browser’s localStorage and cleared when you press Reset.
