Online Notepad — Frequently Asked Questions
Are my notes stored on a server?
No. Your text lives only in your browser's localStorage on this device. Nothing is transmitted, and the page keeps working offline once loaded.
Will my notes survive a refresh or closing the tab?
Yes. Every keystroke is written to local storage, so the note reloads exactly as you left it — across refreshes, tab closes and reboots — until you press Reset or clear the site data in your browser.
Can I use the same note on another device or browser?
Not automatically. Local storage is per browser profile and per device. Download the note (.txt or .md) and open it elsewhere, or paste it into a synced app.
What happens if I press Reset by accident?
The previous note is held in memory and a toast with an Undo button appears for a few seconds. Click Undo to restore it instantly.
Is there a length limit?
Browsers allow roughly 5 MB of local storage per site — several million characters. The editor stays responsive well beyond anything you would write by hand; very large pasted files may slow down the live word count.
What does the .doc export contain?
A simple HTML document that Word, LibreOffice and Google Docs open as a formatted file with your paragraphs preserved. It is not a true .docx; if you need one, open the .doc and Save As .docx.
