How It Works

How to View Video Metadata in 3 Steps

1

Drop a video

Drag MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM or MKV onto the left pane or click to browse. Parsing happens instantly in your browser.

2

Read the Flags

The coloured chips show at a glance whether the file carries location, dates, device, author or software information. Expand each section for the full key–value list.

3

Copy or Export

Copy everything as plain text or download a JSON file. Want it gone? Use the Video Metadata Remover.

FAQ

Video Metadata Viewer — Frequently Asked Questions

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. The file is read with the FileReader API and parsed by JavaScript in your browser tab. Nothing is transmitted, logged or stored anywhere.

What kind of metadata does the viewer show?

Recording and modification dates, GPS location (iPhone and Android write it), device make and model, encoder or editing software, title, artist, comments, XMP packets, plus codec, resolution, duration and track list.

Why does it matter?

Metadata travels with the file. A photo can reveal where your home is, a PDF can reveal who wrote it and with what, an audio export can reveal the software and account used. Knowing what is inside lets you decide what to share — the Video Metadata Remover strips it in one step.

Why is the cleaned file exactly the same size?

Instead of deleting bytes, which would shift every chunk offset and force a full rewrite, the tool renames the metadata atoms to "free" and zeroes their contents. Players skip free atoms, so the metadata is gone while the file stays byte-aligned and valid.

Can it also remove the metadata?

This page is read-only by design. Use the Video Metadata Remover — same parser, plus a lossless clean-up and download.
