FAQ

Audio Metadata Remover — Frequently Asked Questions

Is my audio file uploaded to a server?

No. The file is read with the FileReader API and parsed by JavaScript in your browser tab. Nothing is transmitted, logged or stored anywhere.

What exactly is removed?

All ID3v1/ID3v2/APE tags in MP3, Vorbis comments and pictures in FLAC, LIST/INFO, bext and iXML chunks in WAV, and iTunes-style tags in M4A. Cover art is removed too unless you keep it.

Is the cleaning lossless?

Yes — tags live in separate blocks before or after the audio frames; the frames are copied byte for byte.

Why can't OGG files be cleaned?

OGG stores its comment block inside checksummed pages, so removing it means rewriting and re-checksumming the whole stream. The viewer still shows everything; to strip it, convert the file to MP3 or FLAC first.

Can I see what will be removed before cleaning?

Yes — the result pane lists everything that was inside, and the Audio Metadata Viewer shows the same data without changing the file.
